Canadian Sentenced to Death in China amid Tensions Over Arrest of Huawei Executive

China gave the death sentence to several Canadian citizens over drug related charges. These sentences are suspected to be retaliation against Canada’s arrest of Huawei’s CFO, Meng Wanzhou. Meng is the daughter of the company’s founder. Meanwhile, because of the U.S. sanctions, Chinese telecom giant Huawei will soon no longer be able to purchase its Kirin 9000 chips, which will lead to the company not being able to manufacture its high-end smartphones. China did not respond to that. Does the CCP treat America and Canada differently? What does the Canadian government need to watch out for?
